The GUO group focuses the research interest on supramolecular biomedical materials. Supramolecular chemistry refers to the chemistry based on intermolecular non-covalent interactions and studies the recognition and assembly behavior between two or more molecules. We apply the fundamental principles of supramolecular chemistry to create enhanced diagnostics, therapeutics and theranostics. The central theme of our group is the macrocyclic receptor calixarene, which imparts intriguing recognition and assembly features after subtle modifications. Research in the group involves an interdisciplinary mix of organic synthesis, supramolecular physical chemistry, bio-sensing/imaging, and nanomedicine.
